General Trading E-Commerce License
Depending on the volume and scale of business, there is a best-fit for every general trading / e-commerce establishment. Small retailers could opt to use the specialized services of an importer, or buy in bulk from a distributor who imports in bulk. Large retailers and distributors could do it directly and save on costs. There are multiple business models for you to choose from.
A General Trading / E-Commerce License also allows you to hire several workers for your business operations – work visas for them are already included when you opt for a General Trading / E-Commerce License package.
You can set up your general trading establishment on the mainland or in a free zone. Although the mainland is preferred by many, there are some who choose free zones because of their strategic location and the advantages offered. For instance, if you were a jeweller, the Dubai Gold and Diamond Park would be a good free zone to set up your business in Dubai, because this is where almost the whole of Dubai’s residents come to shop for gold and diamond jewellery. There is no right location for your general trading / e-commerce establishment, but there can be a right-fit for your business.
How to Obtain a Trade License?
The third step involves coming up with a name for your business. A business setup specialist can run a search for you and tell you if the name you have in mind is already taken, or available. You also need to finalize your company structure. It could be a Sole Establishment – this is the same as a Proprietorship Firm – if there is only one business owner. Alternatively, it could also be a Limited Liability Company or LLC if there are multiple business owners. The minimum number of owners for an LLC is two and the maximum number permitted is 50.
You could also set it up as a Private Joint Stock Company if you want to have minority shareholders and majority shareholders. Or as a Branch Office if you want your general trading / e-commerce company in the United Arab Emirates to be owned by another company, which would be known as the parent company. It is recommended that the Branch Office have the same name as the parent company and be engaged in the same line of business. A Representative Office works along similar lines, but it is not allowed to make a profit – it must outsource all its work back to the parent company.
After this, you can proceed to apply for a General Trading / E-Commerce License in Dubai or the emirate where you plan to set up your general trading / e-commerce establishment and also secure additional approvals if required. This step requires that you already have rented commercial space which will be on record as your official corporate address. We can help you out with this part as well, including pointing out how you might be required to have a separate warehouse if you plan to store goods in bulk.
Once you have received your General Trading / E-Commerce License you are ready to commence operations. You can also proceed to open a corporate bank account, which will help you make and receive payments with ease. Owing to strict anti-money laundering regulations in the United Arab Emirates, it is not easy to open a bank account, but we make it possible. Know more about how to get ecommerce license in UAE.
